All sectors of the art world are keen to go green next this week when the UN Climate Change Conference kicks off in Paris (30 November-11 December). Another environmentally-friendly initiative comes courtesy of Christie’s Paris which is holding a charity auction of works on 9 December “in support of actions against climate change and desertification”, the auction house says. Artists contributing to the project—entitled Artists4Paris Climate2015—include Gideon Mendel, who has consigned his 2015 photograph Jeff and Tracey Waters, Staines-upon-Thames (est €5,000-€7,000), and Ernesto Neto (his striking cotton crochet piece, A Candle to Earth, is due to go under the hammer, with an estimate of €20,000-€25,000). The sale has been co-organised with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). Mendel's Drowning World photographic series—made during ten "flood response" trips since 2007—were also shown earlier this month on billboards around Paris as part of the Artists4ParisClimate2015 initiative.
