The legal battle between Lady Gaga and the conceptual artist Orlan rumbles on. Three years ago, Orlan sued the pop superstar for plagiarism in a French court over the cover art for the singer’s 2011 album Born This Way. According to the Hyperallergic website, Orlan says the image is based on Bumpload (1989), a sculpture of the French artist transformed into a mutant. Orlan is also unhappy about the music video for the title track, which shows Gaga with forehead and cheek implants (Orlan had horns ins erted in to her head in 1993). Orlan, who is claiming album royalties of $31.7m, tells us that she hopes a US court will allow her to interview the creative team behind Born This Way. Lawyers for Gaga told the New York Post: “This is nothing but an attempt to generate US press coverage around a meritless case that was filed in France several years ago.”
