A new exhibition at the Museum of Classical Archaeology, University of Cambridge, entitled Recasting (5 September-15 October), brings together classic and contemporary works in a variety of media, demonstrating how today’s art stars are in dialogue with Greco-Roman art and mythology. The exhibition takes the form of a series of interventions throughout the museum’s Cast Gallery, the organisers say, with Maggi Hambling, Matthew Darbyshire and Rosie O’Grady among the artists looking to antiquity. The Scottish artist Reilly will show a digital collage combining a true (cultural) icon— the pop songstress Rihanna—and the more classic poster girl, Aphrodite of Knidos by Praxiteles.
